Do any of you guys ever ride ATV's at the Hanging Rock trail system?

A couple of us club members went this Sunday, and after being told by the OH BMV, and the bakery where we bought our riding permits that we were OK, the self proclaimed "Federal Law Enforcement Officer" thought otherwise, and after a long lecture, we were almost convinced we were in the wrong.

Anyway, it would be cool to meet up with some guys from our club and maybe do some trail riding.

Disclaimer: No dogs were shot, and we only got a warning. Plus, we learned that CCW is legal in all National Forests, but the state laws are enforced. National parks don't go into effect until a later date.

I think that may be a Ohio EPA violation, but I would argue that was an expresion of the 1st amendment right to free speech.

Apparently, if your home state doesn't register ATV's, like KY and WV, Ohio requires you to register them in OH, and pay a tax. We bought the trail permits, and asked everyone what we needed to have to be legal. We were told we just needed a trail permit. We were told wrong.

I called back this morning and talked to the guy that was out of the office when I called Friday. He said that the registration was indeed required and apologized all over himself for the wrong information. He asked if we got a ticket and offered to get it "taken care of" if we did.

Piss on Ohio, indeed, but those trails were awesome.. I just wish they had their shit together and knew what was what. The park ranger didn't even know that the yearly permits don't go into effect until the end of this month so even he told us wrong.. What a zipperhead.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife guys are pretty straight-up but stay away from Ranger Smith.

You'll quickly find that Ohio agencies don't have two shits of a clue when it comes to inter-agency information. Its not surprising that the BMV didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
