Been looking to maybe buy a gun for ICORE.
Is it just like USPSA where "the thing" is a 625 or is there a good showing of 38s playing too?
Thinking about picking up a gun today to come play :D

Since (IIRC) the power factor for ICORE is 120, .38 special works well in that game. The .45ACP used in the 625 is a bit of overkill, with Major PF ammo. Of course, if you use a 625 in USPSA like I do, you want your ammo to make Major, so when I play ICORE with the 625 I shoot Major PF ammo, and accept that there is greater recoil then the .38's
Yes, a moon clipped revolver (like a 625) reloads faster, which is an advantage. But, in the last two ICORE match's at AGC, a lot of shooters used K and L frame revolvers, with speedloaders. While I do not have the exact numbers, I think that there was a fairly even split between moon clip and speedloader users.
For ICORE, at the club level, any good revolver will do. 4" or 6" barrel, shooters choice. If you are thinking about using the revolver in IDPA also, the 4" barrel is a better choice. It does need to be double action/swing out cylinder, since reloading speed with a cowboy style single action gun (think Colt Peacemaker/Ruger Blackhawk), is really slow.
Hope this helps. Join the REVOlution!!!

I'm using a 4" 7 shot Taurus .357 and Grayson is using a 6" security six, we are shooting 38's. we can't compete with the "warped minds of the wheel gunners" but we're shooting. I have a competitive wheel gun on the list "x 2 grayson has to have one too" but they are way down the list. Matt has been going around with a snub nose, I got a Body guard now so I will too. I have found though that it is fun and different. I collected guns for years and never shot them, As I get older I say get'em out of the safe and sling lead...

I'm looking at either a Ruger or Taurus...both of which I'm having issues finding in a 4" barrel.

I mess around "classic gun and pawn" on rt 60 in Barboursville across from Kroger, They usually have a pretty good selection of all guns. Now here lies the problem, I have bought I don't know how many guns there, since the "Obama" scare and prices went up I've had a little trouble dealing with them and I know the guy that owns the place. I left pissed off last time I tried to deal on a gun but have been back to get other stuff. It might be worth the drive up..

Isn't that the same place that ran the fear campaign advertisement on the radio around election time?

I have mixed feelings about the place. There is a couple good guys up there but a few shouldn't be dealing with the public. Before the election they were doing a little "pressure" selling to what I consider "non gun people" or "first time buyers" people who thought they should get something before the election. I don't really agree with it, but I guess greed will do that, I know that they moved a hell of alot of guns there for the 3 or 4 months before election. I personally saw more than one person walk out with 2,3 or 4 stag ar's at $1200 apiece. I would say with things slowing down a little you may get a deal, then again like I said I've walked out more than once pissed off.

If I were going to get a ICORE gun and I wanted to compete I would get the 627. I would get the PC, but you get into a lot of money there. The pro series is nice and the eight shots, even though 6 round neutral helps. I like the GP triggers from ruger and I have never really messed with a taurus. A 686 or any of the the other revolvers work well. The big thing as mentioned by someone before is the moonclips. If you can load with clips you will be twice as fast as without.
My two cents.

I really like the 625. Them big ol 45 moons just fall right into the cylinder. I've not loaded them down to mouse fart loads and have always shot major ammo, but it can be done, and it makes me want to shoot them wussy loads. I've never gotten to use a 627 but the extra two rounds would have been nice to have a few times. Only draw back for me was I don't loads 38 yet and the moons are like ten bucks vs one each for the 45. I have had two 625's and I can tell you that for a few bucks more the PC's are well worth the price, unless your like a certain star fleet captain and can put more into and action job than the gun. I like the idea of a 610 to keep everything in 40 cal but for now will stick with the 625.
