Gun Rags

Post by Bigfoot » Sat Jan 03, 2009 4:20 pm

My Guns & Ammo 2 year special $12 subscription is running out and they won't give me the same deal again. Either way their rag bores me....

What other rags do you regularly read or have a subscription to?

American Handgunner: GREAT photo's...but the quality of the articles (IMHO) has gone downhill in the last two/three years. I've subscribed since 1976, but am starting to consider not renewing when the current subscription is up.

Combat Handguns (Harris Publications) same comments as above. The articles seem to hype (insert gun title here) as the "ULTIMATE COMBAT BLASTER" If you're not carrying it you are totally defenseless against the powers of darkness.
And you're helpless if you don't spend mucho $$$$ on custom holster rigs. And your standard issue gun MUST be rebuilt by a CUSTOM gunsmith, who only builds 12 guns a year.
And before you can even think about shooting, you need to attend specialized training from schools that only train WARRIORS from special forces that cannot be named.
Another one that probably won't be renewed.

Guns & Ammo Handguns: articles are improving (Patrick Sweeny's stuff in particular) and they (the articles) don't seem to all be "TAC-TI-COOL" or it isn't worth writing about.

General topic magazines such as Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times and Gun World seem to be going downhill. Less and less detail, more advertising. Every gun written up is just the greatest....

An exception (again IMHO) is the NRA's Shooting Illustrated magazine. It seems to have a wide variety of articles, with good technical detail (specifications/performance etc) on most guns written up in the articles.

I don't include American Rifleman (NRA) Front Sight (USPSA) or Tactical Journal (IDPA) since they are a benefit of membership. I won't be cancelling my NRA membership, even if the articles quality was terrible. (and the American Rifleman seems to have at least a couple of interesting articles every month)

And there is one advantage to any gun rag...they are easy to read in the private library. And carrying the laptop into the throne room does not meet with the approval of SWMBO.
Viva La REVOlution!

Interesting and direct advice. I'll have to add another chapter to the book.:)

What, you don't have a dedicated computer in the toilet? Hmm... Guess I'm the only one.

Its not a dedicated one but it is dedicated to my lap....yes I've took it to the can before!! haha ya I know TMI!!

I got tired of American Rifleman so I prefer to get the Freedom First so I can at least learn to what rights will be taken away in the following months.

I would imagine we could all get together and publish a gun rag far superior to most of the stuff out there now.

Small Arms Review, and occasionally Special Weapons for Law Enforcement, if the cover looks good.

Mitch, I know I told you it was OK for you tell your wife those mags are mine, the Playgirls, but she is not around here so you should probably not mention your tool hardener mags of choice on a public forum.

Sure it is on your lap.(SARCASM) We really believe you, I mean, if you are taking your computer into the can to view your porn collection, I would bet you at least put the computer on the sink.
