New AR

Just picked up a new rifle, a Rock River LAR-47.

It is a 7.62x39 AR that is built from the ground up to use AK 47 magazines.

With 7.62x39 ammo being more available than 223 this seems pretty cool.

Mine is the Delta Carbine and seems to be very well made.

More info to follow.

Well got to my range today. Zeroed the Aimpoint at 50 yards and got some pleasing results.

Had trouble with the Mag Pul magazine I had. I think the bolt was rubbing on the feed lips.

Switched to the magazine that came with the gun and it ran perfectly.

Gun has more felt recoil and muzzle lift (up to the right). Will switch to a JP comp soon and see if it flattens out a bit.

Very happy so far.

Thats awesome glad to ser they finally got them to market after so long of talking about them. Does it run a standard bolt carrier? Also where were you able to track one down at?

Update 3.

Shot some more today, everything good.

Picked up a Blue Force sling from Herd Tactical. Rear sling attachment is higher than I would like. It sticks me in the cheek but I can live with it.

This gun does not have a bolt hold upen, just as all AK's. This will require careful planning on reloads if used in a match.

Sebastian suggested I try a H2 buffer to help with muzzle jump. Will see how that works before installing a muzzle brake.

Looks good. I carried a Rock River AR for a few years out west, never disappointed me.

Sounds like a nice setup. Looking forward to seeing it.

I'd definitely try a heavier buffer, but I bet you wind up with a comp.

Have you shot it at distance yet?

Going to do the buffer first and get a feel for it. Then put a comp on it for a final evaluation.

Have not shot it at distance yet. I figure with the low velocity I should be pretty well ou of steam by 200 yards.

Well H2 buffer and muzzle brake went on/in at the same time.

Crappy weather prevents a little fun.

Clear Sunday maybe a bit of fun at the match.

Well final post on the new AR. Shot it in four stages yesterday. All short range CQB type stages.

I can say I am pleased. It is somewhat different than a normal AR, but not a big deal.

Dot tracking was good although everything was short range.

Had a feeding malfunction on the last stage, ironically with the factory magazine. The steel com-block mags worked fine.

That's all for today.

Well another follow up. Malfunction was due to an apparent ammo issue. This gun needs a bit more power. Switched to the Red Army brand and no issues.
