Subsonic 9mm load

Post by S Lance » Fri Sep 05, 2008 6:34 am

Does anyone have a favorite subsonic 9mm load? In particular, is anyone using VV N340?

I have heard good things about 3.3 grains TiteGroup (Hodgdon) and a 147 grain Zero JHP. Jay Boggs used them in his Glock 17 and 19, about 3 years ago, before switching to the 115 grain FMJ's

In 2005, I loaded up some Hornady 147 grain XTP/JHP bullets with 3.4 grains TiteGroup, Federal Small Pistol primers, WW brass, OAL 1.10"
I tested them in a Taurus PT-99, with 4.9" barrel

Chrono showed average velocity of 932 FPS, for a Power Factor of 137

Thanks Duck, I have been looking for a pet load for the suppressor. This will definitely give me a starting point.

4.2 grains of VV330 works very well.

sub loads

147 gr jhp, 3.3 gr. green dot works .
147 gr jhp, 6.2 gr blue dot works.
I like the light green dot load best, seems to be quietest.

another idea with a light load, lighten the bolt, do it sensibly. It will work. Use common sense.

Interesting idea about lightening the bolt. What, if anything, did you do to yours?

I have been using 4.0 grs Unique with a 130FMJ bullet since the early 90's. It has worked with an UZI and a MK9 AWC can very well. With all the new powders available now it probably can be replaced if you don't like Unique.

Unique is too dirty, I hate to clean.

VV is clean, guess which one I'm going to use?

I don't reload [yet] so it's pretty much been georgia-arms.com's 147 grain [they have a new "sub sonic" round I'd like to try" and Special K.
